Utah
Elevating Lives, Empowering Futures
Momand Foundation dba Lifting Humanity, was founded in July 2015 in Afghanistan to aid children, youth, and struggling families with education, social services, justice, and other human rights issues. In November 2020, the organization received its 501(c)3 approval in Utah. In February 2022, the organization expanded its non-profit operations to California.
Our Impact
Housing Assistance
Our organization has successfully secured low-income and standard housing placements for needy families across Salt Lake County, a service we continue to provide. In parallel, we have submitted applications for low-income housing and Section 8 housing assistance to further support these families.
Employment Assistance
We have applied for and secured employment opportunities on behalf of our clients, helping connect them with job openings that match their skills and needs, and supporting them through the application and hiring process.
Education
Provide ongoing assistance with College and University Applications, Admission, Financial Aid (FAFSA). Provided workshops on Applying for Colleges, Universities, Scholarships, and Financial Aid.
Immigration & Refugee Assistance
Lifting Humanity provided supportive and integrating services to the newly arrived refugees adjusting in their new environments and building a new life in the US. We provided:
- Cultural Sensitivity and Trauma Informed Training for community partners.
- Translation of Documents into Dari and Pashto
- Legal Assistance for Afghan parole applications in Salt Lake City, Utah where over 50 applications were processed.
- Filed social security and job application forms and translated documents from Pashto and Dari to English in Salt Lake City, Utah.
- Welcoming Lunch: In October 2021, we co-organized a welcoming lunch for the new refugees/arrivals in Salt Lake City, Utah. They were picked up and dropped off at their residence. They were provided clothing, shoes, food products, general hygiene products, women hygiene products, diapers, toys, cookware, dinner ware, and other household needs.
- Ongoing donations of shoes, clothing, household items, and hygiene products to newly arrived refugees in Salt Lake City, Utah and in Southern California.
- In 2025 we provided in-class driving instruction to Afghan women in Pashto and Dari in Utah.
- In 2026 we held workshops on preparing for emergencies when you are taken into custody by ICE and USICS Officers or border patrol.
- We provided in-person interpretation for our clients with Doctor Appointments, MedicAid, SNAP, Employment, Unemployment Benefits, Social Security, SSI, School, Rental Management, Green Card Application, Citizenship Application, and Passport Application.
Interpretation & Document Translation
We provided in- person interpretation for our clients with Doctor Appointments, MedicAid, SNAP, Employment, Unemployment Benefits, Social Security, SSI, School, Rental Management, Green Card Application, Citizenship Application, and
Passport Application. Additionally, we translated and certified Afghan driver licenses from Pashto and Dari to English.
Driver Education
In 2025, we offered in-class driving instruction to Afghan women, delivered in Pashto and Dari to ensure full understanding and accessibility. This program supported participants in building the knowledge and confidence needed to obtain their driver’s license and gain greater independence and mobility.
